# Custom Events

Sending custom events to SiteBehaviour Portal

### **What Are Custom Events?**

Custom events allow you to track specific actions or interactions users perform on your website that are important to your business goals. These actions could be anything from adding an item to the cart, clicking on a specific button, or completing a form. By sending custom events, you can gain more detailed insights into user behaviour and fine-tune your marketing strategies accordingly.

### **How to Send Custom Events to SiteBehaviour**

You can easily send custom events from your website to the SiteBehaviour portal using a simple JavaScript snippet. Follow the instructions below to implement it:

#### <mark style="color:green;">Step-by-Step Guide to Sending Custom Events:</mark>

1. **Choose an Event Name**:
   * You can name your custom event anything that reflects the action you want to track. For example, if you want to track when a user adds an item to their cart, you might call the event **"Add To Cart"**.
2. **Use the JavaScript Snippet**:

   * To send a custom event, use the following JavaScript function:

   ```javascript
   window.sbVisitorCustomEvent("Event Name");
   ```

   Replace **"Event Name"** with the name of the custom event you'd like to track.
3. **Example: Add to Cart Event**:

   * If you want to track when users add items to their cart, the code would look like this:

   ```javascript
   window.sbVisitorCustomEvent("Add To Cart");
   ```
4. **Where to Place the Code**:
   * This JavaScript snippet should be placed in the section of your website where the event occurs. For example, if you want to track clicks on an "Add to Cart" button, place this snippet within the function that handles the button click event.

#### Example of Button Click Implementation:

```javascript
document.getElementById("addToCartButton").addEventListener("click", function() {
   window.sbVisitorCustomEvent("Add To Cart");
});
```

### Why Use Custom Events?

* **Track Specific User Actions**: Custom events let you track granular actions that are relevant to your business.
* **Improve Marketing Insights**: Understanding exactly what users are doing on your website can help optimize your strategies and better serve your audience.
* **Enhance Reporting**: With custom events, you can create more detailed reports in your SiteBehaviour portal, giving you deeper insights into user interactions.

# When to avoid tracking?

To ensure the privacy and security of sensitive information on your website, it's important to conditionally load tracking scripts only when appropriate. Be mindful that tracking scripts can inadvertently capture and transmit sensitive data, leading to potential privacy violations.&#x20;

By implementing logic to detect and exclude pages containing sensitive information from tracking, you can maintain data security and comply with privacy regulations. This practice not only protects user data but also enhances trust and transparency with your audience, ensuring that your web analytics tool is used responsibly and ethically.

# "Complete Tracking" mode

Detail about "Complete Tracking" feature

SiteBehaviour provides a "Complete Tracking" setting that lets you precisely track returning website visitors. For it to be possible, SiteBehaviour stores an anonymous visitor ID in the visitor's browser's local storage which lets it identify a returning user.

When disabled, SiteBehaviour generates a user fingerprint using visitor's device dimensions, User agent, timezone and so on which is mixed with a salt value to create a hash (or a Visitor ID). The salt value is updated every 24 hours therefore It is almost impossible to identify a returning visitor for more than 24 hours. No cookies, local storage, or any kind of persistent visitor ID is stored in the visitor’s browser

\
If you enable “Complete Tracking”, you may be subjected to adding a consent banner for tracking on your website, please consult with an expert in this regard. If you need more details, feel free to contact us at <privacy@sitebehaviour.com> and we will be happy to assist you with any details.

### Informal Negotiations

To expedite resolution and control the cost of any dispute, controversy, or claim related to these Legal Terms (each a "Dispute" and collectively, the "Disputes") brought by either you or us (individually, a "Party" and collectively, the "Parties"), the Parties agree to first attempt to negotiate any Dispute (except those Disputes expressly provided below) informally for at least thirty (30) days before initiating arbitration. Such informal negotiations commence upon written notice from one Party to the other Party.

### Binding Arbitration

Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Legal Terms, including any question regarding its existence, validity, or termination, shall be referred to and finally resolved by the International Commercial Arbitration Court under the European Arbitration Chamber (Belgium, Brussels, Avenue Louise, 146) according to the Rules of this ICAC, which, as a result of referring to it, is considered as the part of this clause. The number of arbitrators shall be three (3). The seat, or legal place, or arbitration shall be Toronto, Canada. The language of the proceedings shall be English. The governing law of these Legal Terms shall be substantive law of Canada.

### Restrictions

The Parties agree that any arbitration shall be limited to the Dispute between the Parties individually. To the full extent permitted by law, (a) no arbitration shall be joined with any other proceeding; (b) there is no right or authority for any Dispute to be arbitrated on a class-action basis or to utilize class action procedures; and (c) there is no right or authority for any Dispute to be brought in a purported representative capacity on behalf of the general public or any other persons.

### Exceptions to Informal Negotiations and Arbitration

The Parties agree that the following Disputes are not subject to the above provisions concerning informal negotiations binding arbitration: (a) any Disputes seeking to enforce or protect, or concerning the validity of, any of the intellectual property rights of a Party; (b) any Dispute related to, or arising from, allegations of theft, piracy, invasion of privacy, or unauthorized use; and (c) any claim for injunctive relief. If this provision is found to be illegal or unenforceable, then neither Party will elect to arbitrate any Dispute falling within that portion of this provision found to be illegal or unenforceable and such Dispute shall be decided by a court of competent jurisdiction within the courts listed for jurisdiction above, and the Parties agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of that court.
